SRWUG@ Build Fighters

Yes. That's right. I went there.

UG@ is now reimagined as a Build-Fighters esque series.

How have your characters changed? What would the canons 'series' which the models are from be like?

Richard is the foreign geek who does a lot of custom work for others, but his own 'personal' model is an extremely rare collectors item that he ALWAYS fixes up to look the exact same as previously. Based off some show that no one's ever heard of and can hardly tell you anything about, except it somehow got merchandise.

Amuro is of course Amuro Ray, with wild mass guessing as to whether or not he's the real deal or just a super fan, like with Ral. Has a wide array of models, will kick your ass with all of them.

Rossiu claims to never play, but is in fact one of the most passionate players of the game you'll ever see. Has a propensity to making up new stuff that somehow gets past the system, and known to prefer tag team matches. May or may not work for the PPSE equivalent.

Boss would make models out of anything and everything that people would claim are garbage and poorly done, but in a pinch, work amazingly well. Calls for cotton to be nerfed.

Bernie is probably an aspiring gunpla fighter underneath Mr. Ral, determined to enter the global tournament. A friendly youth that is easily impressed. He lies a lot, saying that is one of the best Zaku gunpla fighters.

Zabine. Zabine would definitely be a rival type akin to Meijin: Cool, serious, wants to move up the rank using his own strength.

Lowe is a real gunpla maniac! He loves to build and customize models and is good at fighting with them too. Although he's smart and resourceful, he doesn't care much about winning or losing and plays just to have fun. An annoyingly fair play attitude like this makes him more of a mentor/big bro figure than a rival to beat.

Devon is someone who is obsessed with gunpla a bit too much. Her customs are always black and EDGY, often literally. They are made with only moderate skill but she is a ruthless and powerful fighter. There were people interested in teaming up with her but she always refuses them, doing everything alone. She has friends but always keeps them at arm's reach and has to learn the importance of cooperation through defeat at the hands of main characters.

Alessandra already appeared in GBF. Did you miss the 9th episode? On a serious note though, she is a team captain! Her team specializes in using super deformed models that manipulate plavsky particles in fundamental ways. Unfortunately the team also has a lot of infighting and has to be beaten into shape every once in a while.

Lan is pretty bad at this. She uses an aquatic-themed custom and rarely fights alone, usually in a group with her two friends. She didn't make the custom, it was given to her by her brother who has nefarious gunpla battle plans... plans she does not realize. Her efforts at making her own gunpla end in clumsiness and comedic failure.

Felicita is constantly sick and her family is poor. Gunpla is one of the few things that make her escape from worries of every day existence and feel free. Unfortunately she sucks at modeling and her units are always clumsily made, full of construction errors and NUUUUUBS. But she fights with them to have fun - and that's what should matter.

Texotic is a weird foreigner who has talent for gunpla battle but never built her own things before, and is total tsundere for it when she finally tries. GBF has at least two characters like this already.

Pit and Palutena mirror the Reiji/Sei dynamic in a lot of ways. Pit has impressive combat instincts and seems to "get" any gunpla you give him in seconds, which is a good thing because he can't build anything more complex than a Kinder surprise toy without completely screwing it up so they need to rent his figures - and he seems to always win... but also ALWAYS completely wreck his model in the process as a running gag. This makes him a darling of the marketing team, of course, since they get to advertise a completely different model every time he's on screen. His co-pilot and older sister is Palutena. While her control skills are terrible, she seems to posess an understanding of the mechanics of gunpla and plavsky particles that borders on cheating, and it has been said that trying to use a model with a hidden surprise gimmick when she's on the other side of the field is basically trying to put a fence around fog. Somehow a single look at a model and she seems to be able to number each part used in the build. Together they represent Greece in the World Tournament.

Samus is an old world champion, who fights with one of the very first models that were ever created out of Plavsky, given to her by her father. She barely appears in the series, and she's mostly restricted to giving advice and a couple flashbacks, until maybe one moment where she shuts up some new competitor who is trying to play dirty by roflstomping him and reminding him that pilot quality beats newer, shinier models any day. Whereas Ral is everywhere and speaks continuously being silly, Samus does her mentor role with a different tack, appearing infrequently and always having an important but cryptic piece to say at the beginning of the episode that ends up giving the main characters the clue they need for their winning strategy.

Werter is a smart guy who uses analysis and tricks in combat, has a custom-made Gunpla that breaks the rules, is a foreigner who likes manga and anime very much, and often thinks about how the technology used for robots fighting can be used for utilitarian purposes in other aspects of life. Welp, he's Nils.

Frank is a cool and reliable mentor who used to be into Gunpla a lot when he was young, and now provides help to the next generation with his expertise and support. He doesn't use any custom models, just crappy off-the-shelf ones, but his experience means he kicks ass anyway.

Lily is a strange girl who dresses like her Gunpla, and nobody is sure is she just cosplaying or is she an actual real life robot girl. She claims she's the latter, at least! At one point she finds a broken, old Gunpla, and incorporates parts of it into her own model so it won't be alone anymore.

Tobia is a scrappy kid who starts with generic Gunpla but uses grit and ingenuity to beat his opponents, before finally building his own custom models. Shoots down Serious Business villains by yelling at them that it's just a game, not a war. Might actually be a Tobia otakin/cosplayer/whatever these GBF cameo people are.

Raynor is a guy who built his life philosophy around Gunpla, and seeks to understand the world through a set of principles focusing on building and battling them, and applying the same approach to the rest of your life. His rival is the leader of a gang of Gunpla delinquents who followed the same principles, failed to uphold to them, and became disillusioned.

I'm not going to try to come up with something for Fate because shoehorning one SS-sized character in is enough.

Laura wasn't that in to Gunpla, but half-heartedly joined a club in school and formed a crush on a senior member. She quit after several of the club died in a bloody Gunpla battle an accident of some sort, come on. This naturally put her off Gunpla for a few years but she eventually rededicated herself to the hobby in memory of her dead crush. She customizes stereotypically "feminine" models like the Nobel and gives them bullshit hax Plavsky particle abilities. She's shy and retiring away from the battle system but once in a match is seriously vicious and plays for keeps.

She also is kind of confused about how cute she thinks that girl who dresses like a Gundam is, and I swear I decided that before Tengu made his post above.

Herb is a hobo who travels the world gunpla fighting everywhere! He's very competitive, and sticks in the series' setting because the main character defeated him, and he won't leave until he can pay him back.

He fight very offensively and aggresively, and somehow can use plavsky particle offensively..

Elena is... a girl who lost her whole family, and talk to her gunpla as if it's her lost family...

That's... kinda tragic...

She stalks one of the main character, and very talented with model knife, if you know what I mean.

Tron is a very talented gunpla customizer, who got her own club with 40 loyal minions, and act like a princess. Not that good at controlling, but very talented at kitbashing. Very tsundere to the main cast, the club first act as harmless antagonist, but will help the cast later when the cast fight truly eevil antagonists.

Rock is... a third rate extra or something, dunno, he's pretty boring.

Cheng's family are esteemed gunpla battlers with a major reputation to uphold - and they have always, ALWAYS used mook kits. Cheng is the black sheep of the family who almost always gets his butt kicked. This however doesn't stop him from being a bro. Cheng's gunpla are what you expect them to be, mooky, but heavily armed to the teeth regardless of armor.

Michael Wilson. Oh god where to even begin with this man. Michael would be the President of a major American Gunpla group. He was unfairly tossed out of it by Richard Hawk - who has a fetish for spidery-MA gunpla. He's all hot blood and fiery spirit with a love for the game, and while he may seem overbearing at first, that blazing spirit he has is very infectious.

Vlaska. Is the mascot of a Russian Gunpla group. His owner Natasha is the leader by way of amazing building skills and her likeable attitude. Unfortunately they run into problems with the Russian Gunpla mafia, leading to zany adventures.

Patrick. Is already in GBF. As Patrick Mannequin. He's also living in Ireland with Kati. What else would you expect?

Luger is a sickly jackass who only got into gunpla out of sheer boredom and then realized he could make money off bets from it. He's often known for being an unsportsmanlike but savvy fighter and is very given to unorthodox tactics, which makes sense considering his only gunpla is his old, crummy 'sniper leo'.

Terui is probably a part of the PPSE. How do you ask? He's with the sportsmanship, rules and reg department. Yes. He's a Gunpla Cop/Referee. And a very grumpy one at that. Anything he has is probably all about raw speed and close range.

Sam would be similar to Mao. Meaning that the Rodriguez New Shadow School is now GUNPLA as well as swordplay. Sam is very much given to absolutely obliterating the hell out of his opponents gunpla in fights. Those who go up against him, abandon all hope ye who enter here. He still retains his ability to taunt the everloving hell out of his opponents.

Mad would be brought up with how her dad was this amazing gunpla champion only to realize he was a washout who was caught cheating during the finals with his crew leading to issues between them. She uses Zeon style suits in rebellion against her more feddie leaning dad. Eventually the two mend bridges with each other, leading to the two going into a tag team match with Darren fighting fairly for once in his life. Sure the two lose, but they walk away laughing about it.

Cora is a retired gunpla playing momma. She would serve as a mentor figure and often relies on a mixture of mobility, firepower and brutal close range tactics. She's a very cheerful and friendly personality unlike her UG@ counterpart - mostly because Curtis didn't get ka-boomed. He was the one who built her Gunpla and kept it maintained back in the day - and still does in the off occasion she has to teach someone a few things.

Ryou's a gunpla player who like Luger is purely in it for the money. He doesn't care about sportsmanship or entertaining people. As such he often tweaks his gunpla for every specific match. Eventually though after hanging around a few certain people, he starts to get into the spirit of the game.

Zyvan and Tatianna would be fighters from the 'old school'. Still going strong because of their passion for the game and in the hopes of winning one more championship before Tatianna's illnesses prevent her from attending another fight as a contestant.

and finally....

DOCTOR WEST!!!

A downright maniac and fanatical gunpla fighter who's downright in love with both the game and his own work. He of course still gets his rear end handed to him despite every improvement and every iteration of his gunpla. He is never deterred by every failure and comes back more passionate and louder than ever.

His preference for a selection of unconventional weapons tends to be his downfall, especially with the odd configurations he uses.

In the end really he's on the same tier as Susumu Sazaki and the Gyan Gya Gyan.

Isaac, being not dead, would be the male equivalent of an ultra competitive 'Ojou' character, trash talking his opponents, letting out haughty nobleman's laughs, and afterwards being surprisingly gracious in defeat. He'd also be charming all the ladies around him with his old-fashioned chivalric manners.

His Gunpla...would be a Sinclair family heirloom, that's been in their possession since the early Gunpla competitions during the Hundred Years War! Yeah, that makes no sense. Still, his Gunpla's huge sword is really sharp.

%%%

Matthew, instead of piloting Gunpla robots from anime and other similar sources, would be using Gunpla derived from the setting of one of those dark tabletop miniature strategy games, featuring a dark future where there is only war...and boxy looking mechas with Chicken Legs!

Said mechas would have lots of firepower, but not quite as much maneuverability as is needed in Gunpla competitions. Still, he would charge into every fight fearlessly, displaying both the honor and obscure made-up words of his setting's faction!

He would be a true bro to his allies and friends. And surprisingly good at painting figurines with precise detail.

Only posting for one person here because I find the ideas for her GBF version the most amusing.

Neptune: Plamodel (not necessarily Gunpla, which refer to Gundam Plamodels) idol and game development company mascot. The game development company in question is interested in expanding via the Championships, and keeps her popularity in check by issuing her a Plamodel whose performance depends heavily on how much she can energize a crowd during a match. It has a super mode that activates when the audience is mostly on Neptune's side. The drawback is that if the audience doesn't support her, she'll definitely lose, as her Plamodel is rendered powerless.

Her rivals are mascots of other gaming companies with Plamodels similar to her own; this means her battles against them are pretty much glorified popularity contests. She spends her off-days RPing online as her more mature, refined and serious OC: Purple Heart. Most importantly, her singing voice is indistinguishable from CE's Lacus Clyne, which makes her pretty well-known among Gunpla fans.

MarKus uses armored Gunpla (like the NT-1 and Duel Gundam Assault Shroud), but painted like Riders from Kabuto. While he doesn't seem to be very good at first, he tends to rush people down after pelting them with armor bursting off the model. He tries to be dynamic and heroic, but more often than not, when he forgets about it, he's more victorious.

Gainer is much like Reiji, a prodigal pilot. He's not the best builder, but he's gotten it down to building a sleek FC kit mixing parts from Spiegel and Nobel, giving him an epic "Super Ninja" power up. Around his parts, he's undefeated.

Schwarz is ****'s older brother, having run away to pursue his own Gunpla style, which doesn't coincide with the family style. Using thses new skills, he's constantly tormenting his younger brother with teachings mixing his style and the family style, which will ultimately lead **** to be a true Gunpla master! He uses an inverse-color Spiegel.

Mark Curran is the only person recorded to use a G-Saviour, ever. That was his data that the Delta Gundam blew up in that one episode. That's all he's ever been known for, using the most unknown, unpopular Gunpla.

Loran is really into gunpla building and works on models and other such things, and he really has a love for aquatic units for some bizarre reason. Even with the background of being part of a fishing village it's weird. The only non aquatic unit he's into is one that he barely knows how it works after it was passed to him by some weird guy with poofy hair- saying Loran would be the perfect brother and rival. Despite his lack of battle prowess he puts a hell of a game together with tactics you'd not expect- it almost seems like he's just clowning around or is a complete amateur that wins out of flukes.

Yusuke is a world travelling Gunpla Referee. He plays the game only when necessary because his crafting skills make all the units he builds stupidly powerful. He usually hands them off to less fortunate kids than keep them himself. Everyone deserves to have a Gunpla.
