Welcome back!
Not a lot more notable plot before this mission; the most important scene is Setsuna talking to his Meister buddies (and Duo) about Throne. We jump into the action pretty quick!
Chapter 43
Spearhead of Malice
Full mission recording
Mission starts with us on the way toward the colony, all ready to engage in some CB-style armed intervention. Against BAHRAM!
First enemy group is a wave of Spiders, with a group of LEVs as neutral units. Battle Mastery is to keep the LEVs all alive until a certain enemy force arrives.
New units!
Dingo drops down, verniers flaring. Charging forward, he brings Jehuty's blade down on top of the Spider.
Jehuty kind of reminds me of Werkbau/Dis in @3 - bills itself as a real, hits like a super. Great unit, as long as it doesn't get hit by pretty much anything.
Hesitant to use the Break On just yet, Teppei instead has X charge at one of the Spiders, Teppei firing the Messiah Fist's cables at it at point blank range.
Batman is /m/
Teppei is pretty sweet, although his main pull isn't the unit - it's his spirit abilities. That's why you'll see me dropping him in the second seat of a couple mechs in the second half of the game, like the 0-Raiser.
"Hmm, no, no, that will cause the end of life as we know it, no, no... ooh, this'll work." A giant Light Gun pops out of the Megas's leg, and Coop fires three bullets each at two of the spiders. The Megas blares a loud "RELOAD"
Oh god, Coop. What is this I don't even.
After a few more enemies...
As the battle continues, more Spiders continue to pour out of nearby tunnels and adjacent areas.
More pressingly, however, a single large energy signature tears towards the battle at high speeds.
a digital voice monotones over the comm channel...
"Jehuty... Target BRAVO..."
It's Nephtis again! Minor boss, with only 22k HP, but it does give this part of the battle a bit more oomph. However, before we can finish her off, the Thrones take the field, meaning I've won my BM.
They have a new team attack!
Michael: "Johann, let's dock!"
Trinity Eins and Trinity Zwei dock together, forming a giant beam cannon.
It fires a huge stream of energy, tearing through spiderse, LEVs, and civilian buildings alike.
Yeah, this gives us three more mid-range-ish realtype bosses to fight. Between the team MAP attack and the Fangs, Michael is top priority here. However, this game just loves introducing one wave before you've really dealt with the last...
A hole shatters in the ceiling of the colony, and a stream of Eviluders pour in.
The automatic decompressurization countermeasures kick in before the hole can endanger the colony, but the Eviluders have plenty of time to get through.
OH NO
EVILUDERS
Yes, I'm going to say that every time.
On a theory comment, I think the event that triggers the Eviluder invasion is taking down Viola, although there might also be a turn limit. Point is, if you want to, you can have some control over when the waves deploy on this stage.
Unfortunately, things don't go quite as planned here:
[Battle Animation:]
Dashing forward and seeing that most of the enemies are airborne, he locks on to all the Trinities and the Eviluder commander for good measure before letting a homing laser fly.
Meanwhile, Lang shrugs off Jehuty's attack effortlessly.
[Miss]
Lang: "Don't interfere, Earther trash!"
Dingo: "Fuck you! I'm no Earth human!"
He charges towards Jehuty, easily matching its speed, and drives a fist deep into the torso, his hand coming out the back of the machine.
[4305 damage (Defeated)]
Dingo: "Hnggghhh!"
Down goes Dingo. Fucker only had a 19% chance to hit, too!
Oh yeah, other new unit:
A massive particle beam flies in from the distance, vaporizing the array of GN Fangs
Behind it flies the Gundam Virtue.
Tieria: "Virtue. Preparing to destroy targets."
Virtue engages its GN Field to cover the other Gundams as it charges and fires its GN cannons at Throne Zwei.
Zwei dodges out of the way of the ridiculous array of humongo-lasers, losing a leg in the process.
[5708 damage]
Michael: "Shit. Shit! SHIT!"
Anyway, Lang is the real Boss of this map, with 42,250 HP and good evasion - which is made more troublesome by the fact that he's casting Focus every turn! Once he hits about 50% HP, we get MOAR CUTSCENE
???: "Orgun! He's mind-linked with you!"
Lang: "That voice... Leave! Why, you..."
Orgun: "Leave!? What are you doing here!?"
Orgun: "If he's reading my mind, then..."
Leave: "I understand it too, Orgun... the power of this planet!"
[Battle Animation:]
Orgun Flies straight at Lang, then jinks to the side at the last second and punches him through a nearby building.
Lang is taken by surprise by the attack, and is sent flying by the attack.
Orgun follows right on top of him to make sure he doesn't have a chance to regain his composure.
Lang is pushed back farther and farther under Orgun's assault, trading blow for blow, as Orgun and Lang are both pushed to the limit of their endurance.
Orgun uppercuts Lang high into the air, "I think up but move down, I intend to go right then head left! You can read my mind but not my movements!"
[8450 damage]
With Orgun having broken Lang's Jedi Mind Trick, he stops getting that per-turn Focus. From here on out, it's mop up - Thrones all retreat at low HP, and Lang triggers another cutscene with Leave once he hits critical.
Lang: "Lady Mhiku foresaw that you would be a menace to the Eviluders."
Lang: "No enemy can stand before us. Not now, not ever!"
Lang's chest opens, a massive energy beam charging, aimed at Orgun.
Lang: "Now die with this city! ORGUN!"
Orgun prepares to counter with a beam of his own from his forehead laser.
As he charges, however, Leave, the third Orgun-type suit, grabs Lang and flies upwards, away from the city.
Orgun: "!?"
Lang: "Let go of me, Leave! You'll be killed along with me!"
Leave: "Orgun... I wanted to try and fight for my own reasons."
Leave: "To be like you..."
Orgun: "LEAVE!"
HEROIC SACRIFICE even though they just showed up this mission! WOO?
Not too much funding for this mission, thanks to half the bosses retreating at low HP. OH WELL there's plenty of time for upgrading in this game, cripes. It's not even halfway over!
Next week: SHOWTIME!

The ONE MISSION LOL HEROIC SACRIFICE thing for Orgun's friends kinda reminds me of the old Shuffle Alliance in...well, in canon, but also in most SRW games including this one. Map sprites are cheap, it seems.

So...have you figured out how Megas works, exactly? There seems to be some kind of weird randomness to its attack list.

The general gist of it, though, is this: Megas has a huge master attack list, and gets five of them at the start of each map pseudo-randomly. Certain events, such as plot events, dropping below a certain HP value (?), and possibly using every attack you have in that set, cause it to reshuffle and give you new ones.
It's not totally random, though - there are a jillion factors that influence which attacks you're more likely to get, such as which units you deployed, which enemy units Megas has fought recently, which map your on, etc. It's complicated.

And didn't you know? Batman's been /m/ for a while. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUGTotzlnp8)
