(no subject)

Welcome Back! Today the AD path (90s-00s Gundam path?) picks up in earnest. And holy shit, this mission is intense.

Notable scenes: Not many! Just Quatre being all foreshadowy - isn't Heero supposed to be the main character of Wing?

Chapter 018
Broken Wings

Full mission recording

This mission starts with Lockon auto-deployed along with our new unit of the day: Setsuna in Gundam Exia! Unfortunately, since the mission is extracting them from an extended battle, both start at 50% HP and EN. The enemy force is mostly Tauruses, which are also infinitely spawning on the first couple turns. However, on the more dangerous side of things:

A small speck rapidly approaches on the horizon. It's becoming larger and larger with every passing second.
After a few seconds, it can be seen that it's a rather large white mobile suit with a large beam rifle on its right arm and a shield on its left.
It continues to speed closer until it comes to a sudden halt and thrusts upwards, blasting a few shots down at the EDF mobile suits.

Zechs is on the field, in the Tallgeese! Also with him is a group of Flags (Enacts? Fuck if I can tell the difference). The Flags are more dangerous than the Tauruses, but still mook material - and Zechs is obviously the most dangerous target on the field. 26,000 HP and great evasion, but it's not actually required to take him down. For now, I'll steer clear as best I can and focus in farming mooks for EXP/cash.

New units:

Heero raises Wing Gundam's buster rifle to return fire at the intruder after aiming carefully.

Heero's pretty good, but suffers from the same problem as Lockon and Excellen: This game just has too many sniper units! I'm trying out a super sniper-heavy team this mission, but it's not something I'll be repeating often in the future.

Rika's still hanging back until Taomon needs a boost. Taomon turns to engage the incoming fighter's as well. "Thousand Spells!" She shoots a stream of red exploding spell paper at the nearest fighter.

Continuing with DIGIMON IS NOW /m/, Taomon is pretty hardcore, but plays completely differently from Wargrowlmon. Low HP but a strong barrier, decent evasion and pretty good attack output, it's like some weird hybrid all-rounder unit. Pretty interesting stuff.

Dynames takes the mook rampage ghost rip off for Setsuna, suffering minor damage since he was ready for the brunt of the attack.
A hot blooded man's voice cries out over open communication as the black Flag Fighter, in fighter form, begins to charge in at the Dynames.
Graham: "I've wanted to meet you... oh how I've wanted to meet you, Gundam!! My name is Graham Acre! Let's dance!"

And we get our second boss unit! Graham's less dangerous than Zechs at 18,500 HP, so we actually will be making him a somewhat priority target here. He's got some pretty wild attack animations, though:

[Battle Animation:]
Lockon: "Gkk..! You think you can take us down that easily?!"
Dynames grabs its GN Rifle, moves back and shoots at one of the flags.
Graham: "Hah! Too slow, Gundam!"
[Miss]
Graham barrel rolls in low flight out of the way and transforms mid-air, MID-CHARGE...
...and attempts to KICK the Dynames.
Graham: "This one's called the Graham Special!!"
Lockon: "Hey!"
Dynames attempts to move to one side using its engines.
The kick connects, and the two skid in the sand as the black Flag mobile suit kneels on top of the knocked prone Dynames.
[1653 damage]

This battle is actually getting pretty damn big and involved, and we could stand to use some repair/resupply units about now!

Setsuna charges his engine, then rockets ahead in a forceful tackle, colliding with Graham's Flag and trying to get him further away from Lockon. He slashes with his arm blades, but is mainly focused on moving the mecha quickly.
The two beam sabers strike and crackle as the two mobile suits figuratively butt heads.
Between the plasma blade and the defense rod, Graham's Flag defends itself from damage, but is bull rushed back.

Setsuna is an allied NPC right now, but Exia seems pretty sweet. Moderate HP, hard to hit, and a shitton of melee attacks. Kind of sucks as a ranged attacker, but, well, Exia.

Anyway, since this mission wasn't insane enough yet, guess what it's time for?

MORE BOSSES!

Suddenly, floating over one of the sand dunes comes a mobile armor.
A gruff voice sounds over the open comm.
???: "So we meet again, BOY."

Ali Al-Saachez ALSO takes the field! It's a goddamn Gundam Villain Mosh Pit in here. Being in a Mobile Armor, he's got more HP and less evasion than Graham, but things are starting to get messy. More annoyingly, Setsuna is automatically moved adjacent to him when he spawns.

Anyway, time for a cutscene to make matters even worse:

Lady Une: "EDF and Gundam pilots!"
Une: "OZ has seized numerous missile satellites, and we are prepared to stage an all out missile attack upon the following colonies, starting with Colony C-1 01 3."
A list of colonies is transmitted all present.
Une: "These colony have been identified as the origin of Gundams 01-05, some of which I might add are among the EDF."
Une: "We consider the construction of these mobile suits, which have attacked OZ, to be a violation of their peaceful neutrality."
Une: "This is not a bluff. OZ commands the destiny of all the colonies. I demand you surrender and hand over your mobile suits!"
Une: "You have 5 minutes to comply!"

Dr. J then shows up and blabs for a bit - is this going where it looks like it's going?

Heero nods in understanding, opens the cockpit and steps out onto the platform. "Mission... accepted."

God damn it.

Heero self-destructs Gundam Wing, dropping me to four units, with three bosses still on the field. Things can't get any worse, right?

Right?

Suddenly, from above, a series of... funnels descend.
They attempt to fly and run through the Tallgeese, Agrissa and Flag.
As you look above, a new mobile suit descends, emitting a stream of red sparkles.

A FUCKING THRONE what do you people want from me.

Fortunately, though, the Throne is a yellow-team unit, so it'll attack enemies as well as allies. I do my best to just steer clear of it at this point.

Around now, Graham and Ali get low enough to force a retreat, leaving it as a big Everyone VS Throne smashfest. I'm running low on resources. At this point, I'm putting the Hagane into battle with the boss, although its accuracy isn't going to let it do much damage to the bastard.

Once a bit more damage is done to the Throne, though, Zechs engages it via cutscene, and we get a chance to retreat. Mission over!

Ugh, this is one of the hardest missions on the AD route. FOUR bosses, limited resources, Heero going down halfway through in a cutscene... at least all the bosses retreat at low HP instead of forcing you to take them out properly. No Battle Mastery this time, sadly.

Next Week: Drugs are bad!
