C-C-COMBO BROKEN

Welcome back! I was a touch delayed due to upgrading to Windows 7, but I am still playing.

Notable scenes this week:
-Tomoru is a nerd.
-Latooni is a nerd.
-Tetsuya talks about the next stage.

Which now begins!

Chapter 031:
Operation Break Out

Full mission recording

This is kind of a mishmashed bersion of the finale of the first half of Kyosuke's route in OG1. The DC flagship Mahato is the main target; as the map starts, the only mission objective is its destruction.

However, it's gonna take a lot of breaking through to get to it. Between my initial deployment and the flagship is six Peregrines and a sizeable squad of Guarlions. Troye unit!

New units:

Orgun rockets right at one of the Gaurlions, pulling out his double sword and stricking off the arm holding a weapon as he whizzes by.

Orgun is similar to units like Taomon or Kurtis - more fragile than it was in W, but also better at evasion. Also, I can actually control it from the start!

Kira charges at the nearest Guarlion with one os his beam sabers trying to go for a vital spot.

Kira is expectedly hax, but he doesn't have the same ridiculous upgrade succession that he had in @3. I'll still use him pretty often, depending on how I'm feeling. Great accuracy.

[Battle Animation:]
The Hagane pointed its bow toward the nearest undamaged Peregrine.
Tetsuya: "All impact cannons, fire at will!"
Six large beams of energy lanced from the Hagane toward the Peregrine.
The impact canons slam into the hull of one of the Peregrines, and it boils away in an exlposion of flame and debris under the assault, lifeboats scattering.
[4178 damage (Defeated)]

Hell yeah Hagane! Probably my favorite flagship, at least in the first half of the game. It'll be seeing plenty of use.

[Battle Animation:]
In true no mercy, pull out all the stops, always use your ultimate weapon first and as many times as possible Nadesico spirit, Yurika orders...
Yurika: "Find gaps between our friendly units that are occupied by the enemy and arm the gravity blast cannon for successive fire on the spread setting! Fire!!!"
The Nadesico's immediate assault catches the DC forces somewhat by surprise. The Gravity Blast Cannon crushes three Guarlions, and heavily damages two Peregrines.
[Guarlion: 5133 damage (Defeated)]
[Guarlion: 5078 damage (Defeated)]
[Guarlion: 5101 damage (Defeated)]
[Peregrine: 4781 damage]
[Peregrine: 4606 damage]

The Nadesico is ridiculous. God, that MAP attack.

Once I've pushed forward enough, a cutscene triggers:

One of the Bridge Bunnies on the Nadesico calls out...
Nadesico: "Captain! One enemy mech approaching at high speeds! Unrecognized signal!"
Hagane: "No, that's..."
One of the Hagane Technician's eyes go wide.
Hagane: "Sir, it's the Grungust Type-0!"
A single, hulking machine charges towards the Nadesico head-on, massive sword drawn.
[Battle Animation:]
While the pilot's comm channel isn't on, you can almost hear his battle cry as he brings the colossal blade down on the Nadesico's shield in a massive two-handed swing.
Yurika stares down the robot from her position on the bridge.
Yurika: "Don't worry! Just maintain the shields!"
She waits for space itself to bend around the Nadesico~
As the Nadesico's shield pushes back against the attack, a series of booster jets light up on the back of the sword itself.
The sword cleaves through the shield, and cuts a deep gash into one of the front arms of the Nadesico.
Yurika: "Waaaau!?!"
Moving down under its shield, it makes a second slash as it passes by the back of the Nadesico, explosions ripping through the hull.
[6350 damage (D. Field)]
She falls as the Nadesico tilts and rumbles in space, then picks herself up.
Yurika: "Ow ow ow..."
Bridge Bunny: "Gravity Blast Cannon offline! Engine output down 60%!"

This cutscene results in the Nadesico being forced immobile, along with the Gravity Cannon being disabled. For now, the mission is basically to guard the Nadesico while engaging all the new units that appeared.

Speaking of which:

A comm channel opens, apparently from the Mahato, which is now visible.
Maier: "While your resolution is admirable, I'm afraid that you'll find that we aren't the only ones who see the error in the ways of the United Earth Sphere."
Hagane officer: "Sir! Another battleship is entering sensor range, and it doesn't match any DC identification codes!"
Tetsuya: "Give me visual!"
Hagane officer: "I'll put it on the main screen!"
Tetsuya: "What kind of ship is that? I've never seen that model before!"
Kira: "That's?!"
Hagane tech: "It's ZAFT!"
As he says this, the battleship deploys a wave of mobile suits.
At the head of it are two distinct-looking suits, one blue and one red.

OKAY the situation is getting complicated now, so a runthrough of all current bosses:

Mahato: Main target. 45,000 HP, heavy weapons, way in the back. We don't really need to worry about it right now.
Vesalius: 33,500 HP, but it hangs back, and retreats if it gets below ~30%. Not a required target.
Rau: 16,000 HP in a DINN, hard as balls to hit. Major pain in the ass.
Athrun: 18,500 HP in Aegis Gundam, but easier to hit than Rau. Kira will deal with that.
Sanger: 28,000 HP in the Type-0, already near the Nadesico. I'm gonna move the Hagane in to support and have Kyosuke do the major dirty work.

Beyond that, there are two Peregrines left, and a ton of GINNs for cannon fodder. Let's get to work!

A couple turns after this phase of the battle starts, the Nadesico's issue is resolved with another cutscene:

Hagane technician: "Sir!"
Hagane technician: "The Mahato... the Mahato has dropped its Armored Modules earlier than expected!"
Tetsuya: "What?!"

Oh, Tetsuya.

A cloud of containers holding DC mechs are indeed descending from the Mahato, towards the UES capital below.
Maier: "You did well in coming this close, but the EDF no longer poses any threat to the operation."
Maier: "The victor of this battle is the Divine Crusaders."

In a bit that I think was inspired by the anime version of OG1, Tetsuya gets a brief moment to shine:

Tetsuya: "Get me a communications opening with Captain Yurika! Now!"
Yurika: "Oh, hi there you two~ I was just thinking, what is your main cannon like? Since mine just went offline you see~~"
Tetsuya: "Captain, put all your energy into your shield! We're going to ram the Nadesico toward the enemy flagship!"
Yurika's first reaction was to fall back into the captain's char and say 'Whaaat!?'...
but... she only got to the falling back part when she figured it had tactical merit~
Tetsuya: "I don't have time to explain! Just do it!"
Yurika: "I like your thinking! They'll never expect that!"
Yurika: "Devote everything to the shields besides life support and brace for impact!"

The Hagane pushes the Nadesico, which moves into firing range of the Mahato. Then...

The Hagane swings toward the drop pods. "T minus three...two...one..."
Tetsuya: "TRONIUM CANNON, FIRE!!"
The Tronium beam envelops the fleet of armored modules, destroying over 95% of them in one shot.

The DC's sneaky attack is diverted! Now all that remains is to kill about a trillion bosses.

Once Athrun is "destroyed," a cutscene raises him back to about 4,000 HP...

Aegis Gundam flies up behind it just as its power runs out, having transformed into a giant claw.
It clamps around Strike Gundam like a vice.
Athrun: "Kira! You're a Coordinator! You're one of us!"
Athrun: "Just let me take you! Otherwise, I'll have to shoot!"+
Kira: "ATHRUN! Please I can't I..."

I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT YOU ATHRUN
I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT YOU KIRA
*fight fight fight*

Anyway Strike Pack blah blah blah, Kira gets a new pack and then Athrun's beatdown can commence. Meanwhile, I finish off all the proper duels: Kyosuke gets the finishing hit on Sanger, Kira on Athrun, the Nadesico on the Mahato.

Sanger: "Kyosuke... you have won this battle."
Kyosuke: ...
Sanger: "From here on, the fate of the Earth Sphere lies in the hands of the Earth Defense Force."
Sanger withdraws at high speed, and the Mahato plunges into the atmosphere, burning to cinders.

Mission clear! TONS of money from this mission thanks to all the bosses and battleships, so everyone gets some nice juicy powerups.

Next week: Digimon and Nanoha continue to be /m/.

I have said it many times regarding the Nadesico being OP.

The show is called Martian Successor Nadesico, not Martian Successor Aestavalis. :D
