The urbanmech (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Urbanmech) gets flack for being basically a trash can on legs, but I think it's kindof cute like a pug. No, what our gritty tactical wargame really needs is a mech with Lady Gaga hair and tits (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Erinyes).
The hollander (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Hollander) shows that the Lyran Commonwealth isn't compensating for a small anything, thank you very much.
The ostsol (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Ostsol) really shouldn't be able to stand up on its own power.
Then there was the very original Land-Air Mech (http://www.sarna.net/wiki/LAM), later canonically destroyed to the last unit and its factory blown up. It's the first known instance of FASA showing shame.
And i'm not even gonna touch the Mechwarrior: Dark Age designs (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/827/1257399399571.jpg/sr=1).
Red Frame BuCue Head Custom is not stupid. It's awesome. (no picture, but here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UDbLJdAFTA) is the Astray short it's from)
Anyway, Astray is technically a part of Gundam SEED, so... pick a design. Any design. If it's not a shameless copyinspired by a UC unit, high chances are it belongs here. Or at least, terribly ugly.
Megaman legends design style is derp+rivets. I could link all mechs here, even the supposedly cool mechs look derpy compared to other setting. But if we need an example...
The whole damn arsenal (http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/Arsenal_%28RPM%29). Everything is street or car themed. The coolest things are the civilian vehicles: Scott and Dillon's cars, Flynn's Hummer, and Summer's bike (Ziggy's moped doesn't count).
But the worst? The (http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/High_Octane_Megazord) zords (http://powerrangers.wikia.com/wiki/ValveMax_Megazord). Megazords look silly enough, but the individual zords? To answer the first executive producer, yes, those are eyes. They mocked it even in the show itself.

I see Battletech steals more than just mecha designs.

That's just from Crossbone. If I had to list all the UC Gundam ones we'll be here all day. Especially Victory Gundam designs.
